Mourvèdre
The Mourvèdre is a variety of great character that is at the same time capricious and demanding. It is said the vines must overlook the sea to give their very best and it is only on the coast in the Var that there is enough sun for this variety to thrive and ripen to the full.
Today, it is no coincidence if more and more vineyards are planting the Mourvèdre varietal in the South of France. No one can resist its aromas of spice, liquorice, fruits of the forest and musk and its full- bodied structure which is softened by being matured in oak casks.
Syrah
The characteristics of this grape variety are similar to those of the precedent. The Syrah is, however, softer and more vibrant in colour. The Syrah gives aromas of violets and red fruits. The wine from this varietal also benefits from being matured in oak casks. After maturing in bottle, the wine develops a bouquet of tobacco and cooked fruits.
Grenache Noir
The Grenache Noir is a variety that is sensitive to weather changes during flowering and its yield can vary. The wines produced are warm and full-bodied. ‘At the vineyard, the Grenache Noir gives more depth to our rosés and is delicious when blended with the Cinsault.’ according to François and Alain Combard.
Cinsault
In days gone by this grape variety was mass produced as an eating grape.
However, produced in smaller quantities, it gives rise to wines that are extremely elegant, fresh and astonishingly supple. This grape variety gives balance when blended with the others.
At Saint André de Figuière the Cinsault is essential in the making of our Rosé wines in that it brings an undeniable finesse.
